Our Learning Environment
Our Early Years environment is an important part of our curriculum. It is carefully planned and continually developed to reflect the needs, experiences and interests of the children within our Early Years Unit.
We carefully consider the resources children encounter, the skills they support and how these develop progressively from Nursery through Reception. Our environment provides opportunities for children to revisit, practise and apply their learning while becoming increasingly confident and independent.
Purposeful and Progressive Provision
Our continuous provision is intentionally planned. We consider not only what resources are available, but why they are there, what we want children to learn and how the level of challenge will develop over time.
For example, within our playdough and fine motor provision, children may begin with larger tools and equipment before progressing towards smaller, more precise tools as their strength, coordination and control develop.
Within construction, children have opportunities to work with larger blocks and building materials before progressing towards smaller and increasingly complex construction resources. This develops precision, creativity, problem-solving and increasingly complex thinking.
This progression is considered across our areas of provision. Adults continually review how children are using resources and adapt them when needed.
A Provision That Reflects Our Children
We want our children to see themselves, their families and their community reflected within our provision. We carefully consider the backgrounds, experiences and interests of our children when developing our environment and selecting resources.
Familiar objects, foods, photographs, books and resources help children make connections between home, school and their wider community. Our home and role-play provision includes items that reflect the cultures and everyday experiences of our families.
We celebrate children’s families, experiences and achievements throughout the environment. Children’s own work is valued and displayed, helping them to develop a strong sense of belonging and recognise that their ideas and contributions matter.
We also help children develop an understanding of where they live and the community around them. Photographs of familiar local places, services and landmarks provide meaningful starting points for conversation and help children connect their learning to their own experiences. These familiar and meaningful experiences also provide rich opportunities for children to talk, share their knowledge, develop vocabulary and make connections between their own lives and their learning.

Indoor and Outdoor Learning
Our indoor and outdoor environments work together to provide purposeful opportunities for learning. Outdoor provision is not simply a replication of indoors; it enables children to explore, move, investigate, collaborate and learn on a larger scale.
Both environments are carefully planned around children’s needs and learning, providing opportunities to revisit, practise and apply skills while developing independence, communication, physical development and problem-solving.
