Allergy Safety and Awareness at Batley Parish CE Primary Academy
At Batley Parish, the safety, health and inclusion of all our pupils are extremely important to us. We are an allergy-aware school and work closely with families, staff and catering providers to support children with allergies and medical needs.
Whilst we take all reasonable steps to reduce the risk of exposure to allergens, we cannot guarantee that our school site is completely free from any specific allergen. For this reason, we focus on raising awareness, reducing risk and ensuring staff are well prepared to respond in an emergency.
Our Commitment to Safety
- Staff Training
Staff receive regular training to recognise the signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction and to respond appropriately in an emergency. - Emergency Medication
Emergency medication, including spare Adrenaline Auto-Injectors (AAIs) where appropriate, is maintained in line with medical advice and school procedures. - Individual Healthcare Plans
Pupils with diagnosed allergies are supported through an Individual Healthcare Plan, developed in partnership with parents and healthcare professionals. - Risk Reduction Measures
We work closely with our catering provider to ensure allergen information is available and to minimise the risk of cross-contamination wherever possible. - Awareness and Education
We promote an allergy-aware culture throughout the school community and encourage all pupils to respect and support the needs of others.
How Parents and Visitors Can Help
To help us keep all children safe, we kindly ask parents and visitors to:
- Avoid sending nuts or nut-based products into school where possible.
- Check food packaging carefully before sending snacks or packed lunches.
- Remind children not to share food with others.
- Inform the school promptly of any allergy diagnosis or changes to medical information.
